The Caged Heart

A meditation on the frailty and the strength of the human heart.  Medications can place the heart in a cage, swaying to the rhythms of the body around it, like a gimble holding level on rough seas.  Or a heart can beat out of control through fear, anger or love.

Anatomical illustrations from Tabulae sceleti et musculorum corporis humani, 1747 by Bernhard Albinus.

Monotypes with vegetable dyes, collagraph and Xerox transfer.
